Temporary Insanity.

maybe it's just because exams r on the door step, but i'm suddenly not sure about anything anymore!

is it true that we draw our own limit line to what we can do?...that we can do anything we want if only we have it clear in our mind? what about "every human is talented at something" so if someone doesn't have the "thing" it takes to be a Doctor or an astronaut or whatever then no matter how hard they try, they'll never get to where they want? do we form this talent as we grow up, or it's smthg in our Genes?

i mean, when something doesn't work, should one just drop it and say: "this is not for me"? or keep trying in the hope that it'll work? won't that sometimes be stupidity?

i used to believe that we can do whatever we want, but not anymore! :S

Well i gss we - humans - all have the same capabilities - to a certain limit - and we can do anything that someone had done b4 , the only different factor between u and the others is just the enviroment those ppl who surrounds u , what have been available for u ..........

Taba3an hada all applies for anything in life except being a dr , mo a7 7ada can be one , cuz it needs talent , a minimum amount of super geniuisity that exceeds what most ppl have ....... i need months to explain that , and i am sure most of those reading wont get it ! h3 , jk ofcourse

so we are ultimately affected by the surrounding environment? this effect starts when we r born and keeps going on till we get used to it, and r convinced that we r what the environment made us? :|

Dandoon,

this is quoted from something my friend gave me to read.
"When people don’t know how to recognize opportunity, they complain when it knocks.

The same opportunity never knocks twice. The next one may be better or worse but it is never the same one"

your attitude towards what you do has a lot to do with your success. when u doubt yourself. you are minimizing your chances.
an exam never repeat itself. take advantage,i believe you have enough time to revise, study and practice anything..
you create the thing ;)

Hey Diana,

Have a look at this: (i'm splitting the link because otherwise I don't think it'll all show)
http://www.freakonomics.com/times0507col.html?_r=
1&oref=slogin%20

in a nutshell it talks about how talent is overrated, that people often think that there are some inherent limits they were born with, and though a cliché, but practice does make perfect :)

a bit lengthy but it's worth it...

Oh and good luck with your exams :)

This is something that has been going through my mind recently..

I used to believe that we are environment made, the way Freud explains it. I really believed when I see a person doing something i disagree with, that a different chain of events in my history would have put me in his place, making the same mistake.

I changed this idea recently, when I opserved "white trash" in the us, two 12-13 year old children screaming and yelling at their mother.. It was absolutely horrible what they were saying, and to their mother!

I quickly felt sorry for them, and imagined my self in their place, growing up as they did. On the day, I told my brother that i felt like giving them a beating.. he said, "Why? it's her fault.. she didnt raise them, and probably drinks all their money away".

People have a choice, that's a fact. God rewards/punishes us for our choices. I really believe Freud is wrong in this, Psychology rarely studies things that relate to reason and choice.

So that was about "being a product of our environment". And here goes my two day old theory on success:

In school they say "You can be anything you want!". That's not true in the general sence that anybody can be anything; not everyone has musical ears, or strong memory, a mathematical mind. Note the last part of "..you want", If you're a mathematical genius, and want to become a musician.. then you have other problems. hehehe.

So my two day old theory is: "To be successful at what you do, you need to thoroughly understand your limits, and what you can't do"

Just like psychologists say: "if you know what the probelm is, it's not a problem anymore"

I really believe that I need to understand and define what I can't do, more than what I can. When I know I can't do something, I can figure out a way around it.. or find someone to help me. And everything can be learned with hard work.

It might be a pessimistic point of view, that the first thing i see are the probelms in an idea, and all the reason's why it won't work..

"when something doesn't work, should one just drop it and say: "this is not for me"? or keep trying in the hope that it'll work? won't that sometimes be stupidity?"

I think it's a matter of experience (which is why we tell children that they can become anyone). After the first failure, you can identify what went wrong, and what has to be done the next time. One needs to be smart and learn (Really learn) from his mistakes.. and whenever possible, learn from others' mistakes (saves alot of time and grief).

One also needs to be in touch with reality and smart; There's a difference between dreams and goals. In injaz we use to say goals need to be "SMART":

You're showing a typical 3rd year EE syndrome! keep the course and hang in there, I promise 4th year is easier! :)

LOL dandoon :)

well, it's true that we have some "3abaqera" bel qesem, and it doesn't really make us feel any better having them around all the time ;) but the truth is, yea, if u really really want smth, in the end u'll reach there, and u'll get it ;) (and we should stop comparing ourselves to them!)

i remember that dr '7aled younis once told us "qodorat", i still laugh at the word, although i know it drives tala crazy ;) but in a way, it's true... i don't believe that we are all the same... there r smart kids, and there r "smarter" 1ns :) it might take some1 an hour to understand how smth works, and take us a week to reach to the same point he did, but in the end, we have both reached there... and with a little extra hard work, we might even be able to reach to a more advanced level of understanding ;)

3rd year is really depressing, it's 1 of the worse ;) but we all managed to go through it, so will u :) all u have to do is have some faith, and believe in urself ;) u can do it! (even i did it!!!) (and am not any smarter than u ;)

Hi Diana, I passed by your blog by a coincedence... Seen a comment of yours at Samir's blog.

Well, concerning your Question at this post I think the answer is in the first quote of your post "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish"...

Having Strong faith and being really intrigued with what you want to achieve, will aid in getting what you want :)

Good luck

Diana

my mother once told me: " there is nothing you can't do " and when you are determined enough you find nothing too hard to get to.

Greetings !
Very interesting blog :).

Failure is a big part of learning. Personally i remember most the things i have failed in at some point. So, if you fail, it doesn't mean you should stop.

A lot of great thinkers agreed that one's acheivements are more about the effort one makes, than his genes. If you are sensitive towards bad experience, you are less likely going to put the effort needed to continue and reach the goal ;)

Whether you should continue trying or not depends on what you want to become. Ask yourself, is it worth the effort? If not, drop it. If it is, try again!

If you are confused, seek your driving force :).
